For players 9 to 11 years old.

At this stage of soccer, players begin to experience a team focused environment. Up until now we've spent several hours with the ball at our feet working at our own pace, now it's time to speed up the games and have the kids start thinking a little quicker. A lot of our small-sided games begin to keep score, this creates a little competition between the players and helps them play at a faster speed.

Faster gameplay means more touches on the ball while under pressure, ultimately helping players make decisions for themselves and their team mates. These sessions are all about long term development- we want to show these players how beautiful this sport is. Win or lose.

Characteristics of Coaching this Age Group

Technique: Experiment with the qualities of a bouncing ball and running with the ball. Passing with the inside foot, receiving balls with the instep, and outside of foot. Driving the ball.

Fitness: Keep soccer enjoyable to foster a desire to play. Working in groups of three, four or five. Increase in responsibility, sensitivity, how to win or lose gracefully, and fair play.

Psychology: Endurance, range of motion, flexibility and running mechanics. Fitness activities done with the ball.

Tactics: 1 v 1 defending, 2 v 1 attacking, playing a variety of different positions.

Goals of the Training Program: 

To help players become more comfortable with the ball and understand the significance and need to improve their individual skill in order to become stronger players. 

Emphasis on:

  • Ball Mastery. The ability to manipulate the ball using all surfaces of both feet with comfort, confidence and creativity 
  • Dribbling with all parts of the foot, changing direction, stopping and turning
  • Passing/Shooting with both feet, using different parts of the foot
  • Receiving balls on the ground and in the air with different parts of the body
